Throw Back Thursday (TBT) Cape Canaveral Lighthouse and Beach – October 2014

Off to the beaches of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse

Morning drives on the way to work usually had me detouring out to the beaches of the Air Force Station to see if beach access was open – then after a few photo’s there it was time for a few at the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse.

There are two beach access roads that lead out to the pristine beaches of the Cape – Camera Pad A and Camera Pad B. Old access roads that use to house cameras for launch photography. Today they provide access to the beaches for employee fishing and walking – perfect for photography. They are not always open due to ongoing launches.

On this particular day in October, both roads were open so I took advantage of both locations.

One road leads to the original location of the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse – and the location is marked with some original brinks and a plaque.

The sun rises over the beaches of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

And some photos of the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse:

About the Author and Photographer: Alden Pitard has over 40 years experience working in the Aerospace Industry at Cape Canaveral, The Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and Boeing locations throughout the country. He has supported the Space Shuttle Program, International Space Station, 787 Dreamliner and most recently the Artemis Program. During his time at "The Cape" he photographed a majority of the Launch Sites at KSC and Cape Canaveral. As the Space Shuttle program was coming to a close in 2011, the author decided to bike to all the Launch Complexes he could and capture the Space Center and Cape Canaveral as it was - thus "Biking through Space Ruins".
